Transfering a .com domain to Squirrel Hosting
Many customers want to transfer a domain name to us but are a little unsure how to do it. Well the good news is it is actually very easy. Simply follow the steps below and you'll be hopping over to us in no time.
Important! Before starting any .com/net transfer you must check that the current administration contact details (especially the e-mail address) are valid and checkable. The person that accesses the e-mail address associated with the domain will have a confirmation e-mail sent through that has instructions on how to allow the transfer.
.com .net .org transfer procedure
The general .com .net .org transfer process.
- Click the domains tab at the top of our site (or click here to open the link in a new window) and enter your domain that you want to transfer to Squirrel in the domain transfer box and click submit.
- Add the domain name to your basket by clicking the tick button next to it. A popup will appear stating you must own this domain in order for it to be transferred, simply click OK to this and continue through the checkout as normal.
- Once ordered the administration contact for the domain will receive an e-mail from OpenSRS with instructions on how to confirm the transfer.
- Once confirmed the transfer usually takes 24 HOURS to become active (if transferring from 123-reg or UKREG). With other providers it may take up to seven days (although this is rare).
- You may also receive another e-mail from the current registrar (the company you are currently with). If you do, please read this carefully as it may contain instructions on how to authorise the transfer request.
- That's it, the Squirrel Hosting system will do the rest.

Transferring a .com .net .org Domain From Dreamhost to Squirrel Hosting
- Log into your Dreamhost account.
- On the menu on the left, click 'registrations' under domains.
- You should see a list of domains load, click the domain you want to transfer.
- This should load the 'Whois info' for your domian.
- Click modify whois information button at the bottom.
- Next to where it says 'Whois preference:' make sure 'Use DreamHost's free WHOIS privacy service:' is checked and make sure the e-mail address under 'Forward e-mail to:' is one you can check as transfer instructions will be sent here.
- Click the 'update contact info for yourdomain.com button'.
- In the left menu click Reg.Transfer link.
- Next to your domain name will be an 'Auth Code', write this down exactly as it is, including any CAPS or special characters. During the transfer you will be asked for this code, if you enter it incorrectly the transfer will fail so be careful when you write it down.
- Next go to squirrelhosting.co.uk
